I oppose the Harvard-Westlake private school sports complex because of the proposed project’s numerous detrimental impacts to the local environment and new restrictions on public access to green open space, among many other concerning issues.
Environmental organizations that oppose the Harvard-Westlake project and support preserving true green open space that is open to the public include: Angelenos for Trees, Citizens for Los Angeles Wildlife, City of Los Angeles CFAC (Community Forest Advisory Committee), Hillside Federation, LA Climate Reality Project, No Canyon Hills, PEER (Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility), Robertson Boulevard Special Task Force, Save Coldwater Canyon!, Save LA River Open Space, Sierra Club, SoCal Bat Working Group, and The River Project.
Community organizations that oppose the Harvard-Westlake project and support preserving true green open space that is open to the public include: Los Angeles Conservancy, Los Angeles Tennis Association, Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce, Southern California Golf Association, Studio City Residents Association, Sunshine Hill Residents Association, West Toluca Lake Residents Association, and Whitsett Green HOA.
12 LA City Neighborhood Councils that have supported the LA City HCM designation of the entire Weddington Golf & Tennis subject property include: Bel Air-Beverly Crest NC, Encino NC, Greater Toluca Lake NC, Greater Valley Glen NC, NOHO NC, North Hollywood Northeast NC, North Hollywood West NC, Panorama City NC, Reseda NC, Studio City NC, Sun Valley Area NC, and Valley Village NC.
I urge you to delay voting on this proposed project until questions surrounding conflicts of interest and unethical behavior by 2 City Planning Commissioners are reviewed further and clarified. These Commissioners are Harvard-Westlake alumni and have significant ongoing relationships with the school (donating to the school for 10+ years and serving as alumni group leaders), but refused to recuse themselves from voting on the proposed project, even in light of this conflict of interest.
I urge you to vote for green, not greed. 20,000+ community members are counting on you to stand up to Harvard-Westlake’s monied lobbyists and special interests, and truly represent the values and interests of everyday Angelenos who want to save Weddington Golf & Tennis – the last 16 acres of unprotected green open space along the LA River in the San Fernando Valley – for future generations.
